About Me

Welcome to grey matters!  My name is Noelle, and what was originally a blog devoted to documenting my transition from dyed hair to grey hair has become a collection of random thoughts rattling around my brain - so I decided the title remains appropriate (not to mention that I might just have a bit more subject matter to write about).  By day, I'm an office administrator, but what I really am is a frustrated writer/photographer.  Hence, this blog.

Yep, it's a selfie!
As the colour of my hair may suggest, I am a "woman of a certain age" - but I am also a firm believer that age is just a number, and that with a little help from your friends (i.e. diet, exercise, and attitude), a long, healthy and vibrant life is entirely within your grasp - which is especially important if you are "boomer" like me.  But no matter when you were born, I believe the things I'm interested in - music, photography, travel, healthy eating (to name a few, in no particular order of preference) are universal subjects that are relevant to anyone - and I'm hopeful that I might just hit upon a topic of interest that you can relate to.  If you've gotten this far, thank you for taking the time to read my little blog!

A few more things about me that you may or may not be interested in:
  • I'm mom to three intelligent, beautiful, and funny daughters who are the absolute light of my life.  We have the BEST laughs together. :)
  • I am a Certified Culinary Nutrition Expert (CNE)!  And I may as well warn you now, I know a LOT about preparing, cooking, and eating healthy, nutritious, food - and I'm not afraid to  share  it!
  • My favourite country (so far) is Italy, my favourite city (so far) is Paris, but as much as I DESPISE winter, and sometimes I hate to admit it, there's no place like home (Canada).
  • I probably should have been a hippie, but I was born about 10 years too late (I'm still trying to make it happen though).
  • I have eaten pizza for breakfast at L'Antica Pizzeria da Michele in Naples, Italy - yep, the pizzeria that Elizabeth Gilbert immortalized in Eat, Pray, Love.  (Yes, I unapologetically love that book, and Liz Gilbert too).
  • Oh, that little bee on the blog header?  Not just there to look cute (although it is that!) - I actually have a thing for bees.  It all started with my love of Sting (and his music of course) ;-), but has evolved well beyond that to love of the amazing little critters themselves. These tiny hard working pollinators help put healthy food on our tables - and they give us honey!!  What's not to love? :)
So basically...I'm just a person, I have interests, and I'm here to write about them!  I'm going to try to keep it as real as possible - my life is FAR from perfect, but if there's one thing that being my age has taught me, it's that there is NO. SUCH. THING. AS. PERFECTION.  I wish I'd learned that at an earlier age - but I actually don't think that's possible...

A few other things the so-called "wisdom" of age has taught me:

Be good to each other.  Immerse  yourself in the moment, and make every one of those moments count. Strive to see the beauty in everything.  Practice positivity.  Fuel your body with nutritious, whole, food. Breathe.  Move.  Travel.  Observe.  Listen.  Love.  :)
